In our last two posts, Jay took a look at the first 12 games of the New York Jets 2012 NFL schedule. We now take a look at weeks 3-17 of the 2012 Jets season and see what it means for our beloved green and white. Can the New York Jets finish the season with a bang?

Week 13 –

Arizona Cardinals (home): I like this matchup. Last time these two teams met at the meadowlands, Eric Smith almost paralyzed Anquan Boldin. This late in the season I don’t see the Cards still having Beanie Wells and Kevin Kolb being still healthy on the team. Yea Wells did have a good season last year, but he is too injury prone to bet he will last that long into the season. This leaves one big weapon left. That’s of course their biggest weapon in Larry Fitzgerald. Revis and company will have to find a way to contain Fitzgerald so that the Cards will be forced to throw at Early Doucett. Without knowing who will be at the helm for the Cards, I don’t see gang green losing this one.

Image via Getty Images

Week 14 –

Jacksonville Jaguars (away): This will be Tebow’s homecoming game as a Jet. I would not be shocked if you hear more cheers for Tebow than you would for the Jags themselves. Tebow is so loved down in Jacksonville that he can win the mayoral election there without having to campaign. With that being said, don’t be shocked to see Tebow at the helm for most of the game. Even with the recent signing of Chad Henne, The Jets will have to focus their attention to Maurice Jones-Drew. Regardless it’s the Jags, he is still a dangerous back. He will exploit the Jets defense if they don’t keep an eye on him. Might as well just chalk this game up as a mulligan.

Week 15 –

Tennessee Titans (away): This will be a game in which the Jets cannot underestimate their opponent especially if The Titans have a healthy Kenny Britt and Chris Johnson in beast mode. The Jets will have to rely heavily on their ground and pound early and often in this game as Tennessee ranked 24th against the rush last season. This is where the Jets will needed to draft a good pass rusher in order to disrupt Matt Hasselbeck (assuming Jake Locker hasn’t taken his job yet) getting the ball off to either Britt or Washington. This will be another unforeseen critical game for the Jets.

Week 16 –

San Diego Chargers (home): Unless Phil Rivers forgets about last year’s performance, and Ryan Matthews turns it up this year, I do not see this as any trouble for the Jets. The Chargers just signed both Eddie Royal and Robert Meachem, which I think were good moves but not enough to fill the shoes of Vincent Jackson (who just signed with Tampa Bay). I know come December the Chargers go into beast mode, but I still don’t think it would be enough to take down the Jets.

Week 17 –

Buffalo Bills (away): I know I’m probably giving way more credit to the Bills than I should, but this is another critical game for the Jets. Not only do the Jets end the season playing the same team they opened the season with, both teams may be playing for a potential playoff spot which would make this game that much more important. We don’t know how the season will turn out for Fitzpatrick, Johnson, and Williams; but my guy feeling tells me the Bills are going to come out in full attack mode to make the postseason or ruin our chances of getting into the playoffs. This game cannot be taken lightly for either side.

Image via Jets Rant

Please keep in mind that these predictions are my own personal ones, and are based on current team rosters. As stated earlier, the draft and injuries I’m sure will affect some of these predictions in either a positive or a negative manner.

In our last post, Jay took a look at the first seven games of the New York Jets 2012 NFL schedule. We now take a look at weeks 8-12 of the 2012 Jets season and see what it means for our beloved green and white.

Week 8 –

Miami Dolphins (home): I am happy about this matchup for two reasons. The first is that the Jets will need a confidence booster going into their bye week. Hoping the Miami Dolphins are the same team they face in week 3, I don’t foresee them having problems holding down the Dolphins in this game. The second reason I like this matchup is due to the fact this will be the last time of the season the Jets will have to face one of their division opponents for the remainder of the season.

Week 9 –

Bye Week: The worst part of the season is over. During this week the Jets will have to go into panic mode because the Jets season record is in the dumps, or it will be a much needed week of relaxation for the whole team as were on pace to make the playoffs. Most likely I believe it will be a week of concern as we already faced a rough schedule.

Week 10 –

Seattle Seahawks (away): I think the Jets will win this game, but it will not be a walk in the park. I believe you will see a big game out of Tim Tebow due to the fact that Pete Carroll will be prepared for Mark Sanchez as he knows him as good as anyone. Sporano and Tebow are going to need to throw off Seattle anyway they are able to. Marshawn Lynch can’t wait for this matchup either. Lynch has done a pretty good job in running over the Jets throughout his career. The Jets will have to figure out a way to stop him and the aerial attack of Matt Flynn (who I don’t think is gonna be a bust). I feel this will be one of those non-anticipated critical games for gang green.

Image via Mark Lennihan / AP

Week 11 –

St. Louis Rams (away): This should be another win for gang green. I would still take this matchup seriously as we all know Brian Schottenheimer will. The Jets former offensive coordinator who happens to be The Rams current, will take this as a Superbowl matchup. Nothing would please Schottenheimer more than to beat New York (The city who pretty much booed him out of town). Schotty wants to show the Jets that he wasn’t the reason why they had offensive problems. I think the Jets defense in this game will have to focus their attention to the rushing attack of St. Louis. Steven Jackson proved last year that regardless of being older, you still can’t overlook him as a threat. I believe Sam Bradford will have a strong year (depending if he is healthy), but with that being said I still don’t see the aerial attack of the Rams giving problems to the Jets especially if Denario Alexander is your threat at the receiver position.

Week 12 –

New England Patriots (home): What a way to say thanks. Pats Vs. Jets on Thanksgiving night. Hopefully we all be bored by the lopsided whooping the Jets will lay on the pats. Lol yea one can wish but you never know. Seriously speaking I think this will be a better matchup this time around than the previous meeting these two teams will have. The last time the Jets played a Thanksgiving game they put the beats down on the Bengals. I don’t see them putting the beats down on the Pats but I still see a great game regardless. I wonder how many times on this day he’s thankful for being put on the Jets? Not as many times as he said he was excited in his first press conference he had as a Jet, but it will be pretty close.

On Tuesday, the NFL released the schedule for the 2012 season for all teams. Looking at the schedule you will realize that the New York Jets will face their hardest opponents in the first half of the season including their AFC division rivals as well. Not only will the Jets face the Bills, Dolphins, and pats; They will also have to see the likes of the 49ers, Texans, and Steelers. There is no doubt the Jets will have their hands filled with these opponents. With that being said, the Jets will definitely need to come out the gates swinging, especially against their division opponents. Let’s breakdown each week to address the concerns, predictions, and keys to winning this season that the Jets must address. Please keep in mind this is based on current team rosters and future injuries that can affect the outcome and predictions.

Week 1 –

Buffalo Bills (home): This game is going to be more important than people realize. Not only does winning the first game of the season set the tone for the rest of the season, it also shows how the team’s chemistry will flow. The Bills just signed Mario Williams. This could be the beginning of the end for the Jets if we do not address our offensive line problems. Williams will make it a long day for Sanchez if his O-line protected him like they did last year. I am curious to see how the Jets will face this issue in the draft. The Jets must face another issue in that of Stevie Johnson. Sure the last time we faced Johnson we were lucky enough that he dropped some critical passes that could’ve cost us the game, but I believe we won’t be that lucky twice. I must be honest, Revis had problems covering Johson all game. Johnson had Revis and the safeties beat a few times. With that being said, we have to pray that Laron Landry can be healthy enough to make it past training camp so that he can assist with Johnson come week one. The Jets also gotta pray that Ryan Fitzpatrick does not start off hot like he did last year.

via Associated Press

Week 2 –

Pittsburgh Steelers (away): No one wants this rematch to happen more than myself. Last time these two teams met, it was the AFC Championship game two years ago. Unfortunately I was there to witness this game. Nothing would bring me more pleasure than for the Jets to win in Heinz field so that they can shut up some of the most obnoxious fans in the NFL. This game the Jets will have to come find a way to score early on the heavy defensive Steelers. This game also will lay a big responsibility on the secondary (assuming Mike Wallace gets his contract). Mike Wallace is probably the quickest receiver in the whole NFL. This means we are going to rely on our safeties to back up our corners in covering Wallace. Even with Revis, Wallace will burn our secondary if we our safeties cannot help out our corners.

Week 3 –

Miami Dolphins (away): I know you can never say “oh that’s an easy win” whenever the Jets play the Dolphins, but I feel this SHOULD be an easy win for the Jets. A big reason why is because Brandon Marshall is no longer with the team. I highly doubt the Jets will have problems shutting down both Devon Besse and Legedu Naanee. I don’t see Matt Moore Or David Garrard exploiting our secondary with these receivers. The Dolphins only real threat is Reggie Bush which doesn’t really say much about their attack. With the exit of Yeremiah Bell, I don’t foresee Sanchez having problems hitting his receivers down field.

Image via Marc Serota/Getty Images North America

Week 4 –

San Francisco 49ers (home): Ok this is a game where Tony Sporano and Timmy Tebow will have to work their magic. San Francisco’s defense last year was lights out. The Jets are gonna have to pull some trickery in order to score on the niners. Who better than to pull some trickery than Timmy Tebow himself. I feel confident that the Jets defense will hold up in this game. Even with the signing of Randy Moss and last year’s career year of Alex Smith, I think the Jets will be able to contain their offense. I know everyone probably remembers the last time Revis covered Randy Moss that Moss had scored on Revis and then Revis happened to go down with a leg injury, but I don’t think this will be the case this time around. Keep in mind Moss is two years older since last time they meant, and Moss did not play at all last year. His age will come into factor as he will probably lost a step or two which should make this all the easier for Revis.

Week 5 –

Houston Texans (home): This is the Jets first MNF game of the year. This matchup should bring in a lot of ratings being that it should be a good one. The Jets have to bring their A game on both sides of the ball. Houston is talented on both offense and defense. The Jets defense will not only have to focus their defense on star receiver Andre Johnson, they will also have to worry about Houston’s running game in star running back Arian Foster. The last time these two teams met, the Jets pulled out a last minute comeback win. Besides playing the Pats, this will be the Jets toughest opponent this upcoming season.

Week 6 –

Indianapolis Colts (home): I consider this a much needed breather game for the Jets. The only sure thing about the Colts that the Jets need to worry about this coming year is the threat of Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney. These two will have a field day with our offensive line if our issues are not addressed. Besides these two monsters on defense, I don’t foresee our air attack having much problems as the Colt’s secondary is still in need of much help. I don’t see our defense having much problems shutting down Indy’s rush and passing attack unless Andrew Luck lives up to the hype behind his name in the NFL.

Week 7 –

New England Patriots (away): We’re going to need to steal a page out of the Pat’s playbook here and score early and as often as possible. I know Wes Welker has yet to sign the tender to his franchise tag, but I don’t forsee him not playing as a Pat this season. With that being said, adding Brandon Lloyd to the already dangerous trio of Brady, Welker, and Gronkowski will be any secondary’s worst nightmare. Let’s also pray that we do not see the New England defense of this last year’s playoffs.

Stay tuned for Parts 2 & 3 of the New York Jets 2012 NFL Schedule analysis!

Jets fans are especially eager for the draft this year since free agency was so uninspiring and, at best, addressed next to none of our needs. I already said why I like the Tebow trade, but in reality, it’s nothing but an upgrade at a position that didn’t need upgrading, not a hole-filler. Signing Safety LaRon Landry away from the Redskins was a positive hole-filler but I’m always skeptical of what effect playing for Dan Snyder has on a man. Plus this guy has injury issues. So wildcat quarterback (which I was unaware we even needed), safety, and kicker were the positions “addressed” in free agency. (I don’t count WR Chaz Schilens as a signing until he has a season where he catches at least 30 balls.) That still leaves gaping holes at Right Tackle and Wide Receiver on the offense and Outside Linebacker and Pass Rusher on the defense. Wow, April 26th cannot come fast enough! I think we should address the following positions by order of importance.

Right Tackle and Wayne Hunter

Let’s face it; this is the position that should have been addressed with the best free agent possible. If I was Tannenbaum, Rex, or Woody, I would have thrown as much money as I could muster at this position. This is the position last year that was the weakest link, the position that sunk the boat more often than any other. Wayne Hunter has proven he cannot be trusted to guard Sanchez. He was responsible for at least a dozen of the 40 or so sacks given up by the O-line last year. This position becomes even more imperative to address now since the Bills signed Marion Williams. Facing him twice a year with Wayne Hunter is asking to go 0-2 twice a year in divisional play until we seriously invest in this position. I would love to get Riley Reiff from Iowa with our first round pick (16th overall), but he may very well be gone by then. Jonanthan Martin from Stanford should therefore be our first pick. If both these guys are gone, which is unlikely, it may be a long season.

Defensive Tackle

The Jets have lacked an efficient pass rusher ever since John Abraham left for the Falcons in 2005. You know your defense isn’t getting to the QB when Aaron Maybin leads your squad in sacks. Even the greatest secondary in the NFL can’t cover NFL receivers forever. Someone is going to get open if pressure never gets applied to the QB, especially if one of the corners is Kyle Wilson! This is exactly why we are so blitz happy. It’s the only way our defense can produce pressure and sacks. I wish we saw more of Kris Jenkins for this precise reason, but knee injuries robbed us of our best pass rusher since John Abraham. All we need is one Mario Williams type of player, and our defense could be a force to be reckoned with again. I think this area should be addressed with our 2nd round pick (47th overall). I like Chandler Jones from Syracuse, or if Andre Branch from Clemson is still available.

Linebacker – Calvin Pace, Jamaal Westerman, and Bart Scott

Our two starting outside line backers last year (Calvin Pace and Bart Scott) seemed to have lost a step and became slower as the year progressed and Jamaal Westerman left for the Dolphins during the first week of free agency. Suddenly, it seems we need a lot of help at outside and inside linebacker. I think David Harris, our other inside linebacker in the 3-4 scheme, can make any partner look great. Inside backer should be an easy spot to fill since it’ll be right next to Harris, the play caller of our defense and it shouldn’t cost an arm or a leg. It’s the outside linebacker that concerns me. Our third round pick (77th overall) should be for a linebacker and if Ronnell Lewis from Oklahoma if he’s still around, and he could be since there are some “maturity” issues as former coaches put it.

Wide Receiver

With Plaxico “Gunner” Buress going elsewhere to shoot himself, we need a #1 wide receiver. It would have been awesome to have Jericho Cotchery back, but that doesn’t look like its going to happen now. I loved that guy; almost bought his #89 jersey instead of Revis’s #24. Since we have no fourth round draft pick (traded to Broncos for Tebow) we should use our fifth round draft pick to draft a receiver. At this late in the draft, I cannot possibly make any suggestions. But “Fast, tall, and with good hands” is all I need to hear.

6th and 7th round picks

The 6th and 7th round is where true value and true luck come into play. There are still some great players in these rounds. Whatever talent is left on the board should be considered for our last two picks. I hope we look for another safety to protect Laron Landry’s suspect Achilles tendon. Maybe we could look at another receiver to help out the mercurial Santonio Holmes and the rest of this rather suspect receiving corps. As long as we draft by position in this order and stay away from drafting another back up QB, we should have enough resources to fill our gaps on both sides of the ball. Who would you take this late in the draft?

Last year I was not aboard the Tim Tebow band wagon, especially after he beat my Jets. His play was terrible as a QB, but his stats were so unique that I had to wonder about him. He is definitely a winner that much I’ll give him. Losers don’t take over a pathetic looking 1-4 team, take them into the playoffs, and beat the Steelers and their #1 defense. In the end, he seemed to have more yards rushing then passing (that’s totally untrue, he passed for 1,729 yards and ran for 660 but it really did feel that way after many of his games). Furthermore, I am not a religious person and quite frankly, I think religion should be left out of politics and football. So this guy here doesn’t care for Tebowmania. That being said, I am glad the Jets had the gumption to make this trade.

A Solid Back-up

A lot of people were saying that Mark Brunell didn’t have the skill set or youth to make Sanchez work. They were correct. This is one of the most important roles a back-up plays, no matter the position. The #2 guy has to be good enough to push the #1 guy to be better. This element was nonexistent at the QB position for the last 3 years. I think that the reputation of Sanchez being lazy is a direct effect of this. I don’t think he’s lazy, his coaches don’t think he’s lazy, and nor does Mr. Johnson. However, players in the locker room who are being pushed to perform better by their respective back-ups perceived his lack of a viable #2 pushing him to perform better as laziness. This is probably why all those comments were unanimous. Sanchez needed his back up to push him to be better, period. Now this can happen. He may even learn a thing or two about leadership.

A Perfect Fit for our Wildcat Needs

By now you’ve seen the stats. If not, I’ll repeat. In 2010, before Brad Smith left for Buffalo, the Jets ran 43 Wildcat formations that gained 13 first downs and 2 TD’s. Last year, they ran 12 Wildcat formations that gained, well, just about nothing. The Jets lacked a back that knew how to run the Wildcat. The reason Brad Smith was such a threat running the Wildcat was because he was a QB in college. Last year, with Kerley and Greene running it, the 3rd option of the Wildcat, passing, was not an option at all. Opposing defenses would stuff the box and stuff the run because they knew Kerley or Greene wouldn’t be throwing it behind them. With Tebow, who is fast enough to run to both the strong side and the weak side and big enough to run up the middle, the third option of passing comes back into play. Opposing defenses will have to respect the fact that Tebow can throw the ball behind them.

A Positive Guy in a Fractured Locker Room

Last year our locker room was a mess. I’m sure this kind of issue cannot fix itself. We need some new blood for new chemistry. I don’t know how much influence a young guy like Tebow can have, but Denver players did talk about how he was a good influence in the locker room and the Jets need that more so than a good back-up or Wildcat positional player. I look forward to see what he’ll bring to the locker room. (I can’t wait for Rex to yell, “Bunny ears Tebow!” before he gives his curse-word-laden pre game speeches.) The whole Jesus thing could end up working out for a locker room that raised hell last year.

He was Cheap and Very Cap Friendly

Lets face it, we got the guy for a song and a dance. Tebow came with a seventh rounder and we gave up some money, a fourth rounder and a seventh rounder to complete the trade. Aside from the two and whatever million dollars, which is pocket change to NFL owners, we got a first round player for a fourth round draft pick if you acquiesce that a seven rounder and sixth rounder is relatively equivalent. Anytime the Jets want to upgrade to a guy drafted in the first round by giving up a fourth round draft pick, I’m all for it. Additionally, his cap hit is less than $6 million over three years. That’s not astronomically higher than what we pay our punter, Nick “Folk it” Folk.

The Legions of Loyal Fans

I admit, back when I was a young, impressionable boy, I was a John Elway fan. He got me into the NFL and I began life as a Broncos fan until my step dad brought me to my first Jets game. I think there is an element of Tebow that could enlarge our fan base. I’m all for enlarging the fan base! Tebow has legions of loyal Jesus-lovin fans. I think he has more Twitter followers than any other active NFL player. If we can get half of these fans to stay Jet fans, we will have won countless people’s hearts and minds. Once a fan hears Fireman Ed’s “J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets” chant, they’re hooked for life, even if Tebow leaves.

The Downside?

I know that once Sanchez has his inevitable bad 3 game stretch that Tebow mania will rise up and demand he be the starter. Who cares? Let fans say what they want. The Jets can control fan reaction like Sanchez can control Santonio “Waaaa me me me” Holmes’s attitude. Let the Tebow fans cry all they want. As long as Rex and Woody don’t buy into it, which they aren’t stupid enough to, it shouldn’t matter. Skip Bayless won’t change their mind either. A distraction? Sure, but the Jets are used to it and so is Sanchez. The Jets are a media circus, and adding yet another act can only be a good thing. Now go ahead and argue with me!

Today has been a nail biter for TIm Tebow and New York Jets fans alike. First, the New York Jets announced a trade for Tim Tebow, who has recently been replaced by Peyton Manning following his release form the Colts. Shortly thereafter, the story leaked that a snafu in the contract details would be holding up the closing of the deal. In addition to the trade agreement, the Denver Broncos are requiring an additional $5 million from the Jets for Tebow. As I write, there has been no official statement about the completion or retraction of the trade agreement. Nonetheless, I am confident when I say that Tim Tebow is not the missing link for our team.

Tim Tebow is Not Enough Competition for Sanchez

While Tim Tebow just finished his first year starting, both quarterbacks are working with the same post-season win record of 57%. That goes for Tebow’s 8-6 career and Sanchez’s 27-20 career. Both the Tebow led Broncos and Sanchez led Jets had an 8-8 record in the 2011 season–by no means impressive. If the Jets want to create competition to light a fire under Sanchez’s ass, they’re going to need a lot more worthy opponent. Mark Sanchez needs a lot more to convincing in order to believe that the Sanchize could be uprooted.

Tim Tebow is All Run and No Pass

Tim Tebow can get touchdowns–when he’s the one running them. Let’s face it, Tebow has a long way to go until his passing game is up to par. Mark Sanchez has the accuracy, distance and balls to actually throw the ball. Sure, he makes bad decisions from time-to-time (more so in 2011 than 2010), but his intentions are good. As for Tebow, did you watch the Broncos playoff game against the Patriots for the 2011 season? Tim Tebow ran around like a kid on the playground trying to figure out what to do with the ball when the Patriots shut down all of his receivers. A 45-10 game later, no one was Tebowing.

New York is No Place for Tebow

Let’s face it: a good Christian boy like Tim Tebow does not belong on the Jets. Between Rex Ryan’s foot fetish videos and Cromartie’s 32 kids (or however much there are, I lost count), Tebow’s morals would not be able to hold up. Furthermore, New York press is way more vicious than that of Denver or Tebow’s alma mater state of Florida. Can you imagine all of the jokes and puns that the New York Post and Daily News would churn out? They’ve already had their field day with enough funny Jets newspaper covers to make up for the whole of the NFL. Not to mention that, Tim Tebow would have to say a prayer for every F-bomb dropped by Rex Ryan in the locker room.

Whatever the decision is, I am confident that Tim Tebow is not what the New York Jets need to reach Super Bowl glory.

UPDATE: As I finish writing this, Tim Tebow has officially become a New York Jet.

Ok, I’m getting mad now. Free agency is supposed to be a big week for Jets fans; it certainly has been in the past. We haven’t done anything yet though other than sign one free agent, our own punter Nick “Folk it” Folk. What’s going on here? Aside from Brandon Marshall leaving Miami, there hasn’t even been any good news. I wasn’t a huge supporter of ancient Peyton Manning, but not even taking a stab at it didn’t please this fan, nor does the fact that Mario Williams has been in Buffalo all week and looks like he’s going to stay there. Christ, we can’t even sign Chad Henne who the front office said they wanted to sign to pressure Sanchez. Why aren’t we signing anyone?

Salary Cap, Lawsuits, and Money

The Jets only had about $9-11 million to spend in free agency. Some salary capologists say we have as high as $18 million to spend, but that requires a huge amount of restructuring contracts. Most of the big name players you and I would have wanted were out of our price range. There is room to work with so we will sign someone soon, but it’s not going to be the flashy signing Jets fans are used to. Remember though, some no name players could be great and just need the chance aka Matt Flynn.

Johnson & Johnson, who the Jets owner also owns, is in financial trouble. There are multiple lawsuits headed towards them. They just settled a multibillion dollar suit over an antibiotic that caused irreparable damage to nerves. And in the near future they will tackle more. One case that a federal court allowed to go forward involves a group of consumers alleging that the famous J&J baby shampoo has proven cancer causing ingredients. Yet another case coming has to do with Ortho Evra, a birth control patch who litigants say causes “heart attacks, stroke deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism or sudden death.” These lawsuits have undoubtedly caused some financial distress to our embattled owner and I think this year’s lack of involvement in free agency is one of the outcomes.

Fractured Locker Room

One reason has to be the locker room. I mean, if a player has other options who wants to play in a locker room with well-known issues. I always held Bart “Can’t Wait” Scott as a good guy; a leader and a positive influence. Even he is bolting our team. There are no leaders, just egos. I blame this on Santonio “Waaaaa Crybaby” Holmes and his ability to not lead by example, be an utter a$$hole, inflame his coworkers, and collect money to quit. I can’t believe we have to deal with this guy for years to come. Is anyone going to fulfill the role of leader this year? Perhaps this area should be addressed more so than talent on the field. I want to sign a veteran or two that can lead by example and fix our locker room because that’s where it all starts.

The Giants, The Brady Bunch, and Super Bowl XLVI

The Jets are now officially the weaker New York football team despite Rex’s bravado. While all the talking makes for great entertainment, signing onto a team that talks shit and doesn’t follow through with it will never be a first-choice place to play. If a player wants to take advantage of a big media team in New York, the Giants are the team they will want to sign with and that Super Bowl ring proves it. The other thing about the Super Bowl is who the giants beat; the Brady Bunch. The Jets are one of only three teams that have to play them twice a year. The fact that they are a perennial playoff contender and just made it to the Super Bowl also has to be in the back of potential candidates.

What are we going to do?

Fear not, there is still time in free agency to address short comings on the field. We will sign a receiver or a safety. At wide receiver, I would love to see Jericho Cotchery back! But I’d take this guy Chaz Schilens from the Raiders to save some money. For safety, there’s not much available, but taking Brandon Meriweather from the Bears or LaRon Landry from the Redskins could suffice. If we don’t get any of these guys, then we will address the positions at draft time. Although leaders are built and not drafted, we can look for positive attitudes in the draft. Remember too that we are most likely going to get some value from an imminent Bart Scott trade. I have a decent amount of faith in Tannenbaum, I just hope he gets going soon otherwise we are looking at a rough season especially if Mario Williams ends up a Bill.

Plaxico Burress has made it clear that he has aspirations of playing for the Philadelphia Eagles next season. Surprised? Not me. With all the off field problems and Mark Sanchez’s throwing problems, Plax wants out of New York altogether. Guess with going to the Jets and now wanting to go to the Eagles, I think he is on a mission to irritate as many Giants fans as possible.

Could Braylon Edwards be the Defensive Replacement the Jets Need?

With the Jets draft needs probably aiming at another defensive player; they will most likely hit the free agent market in need of a replacement for Burress. In my personal opinion, they should try to scoop up Braylon Edwards. Yup I said it Braylon Edwards. Sure I might sound a little crazy by saying this, but if you think about it it’s a good idea. Don’t get me wrong, there are many better receiver options on the free agent list, but will the jets be willing to drop a lot of money on the guys? Probably not considering they’re paying an arm and a leg to Santonio Holmes. Jets will need a cheaper option at that position. Considering Edwards will be towards the bottom of the totem pole as far as most desired free agent receivers for the upcoming year, he probably won’t be picky as far as which team he will sign with. The best thing that the jets should do is to sign Edwards to a one year contract. This way the Jets are not stuck with him if by chance he gets another season ending injury like he did in San Fran. Sure we have Patrick Turner who did well at the end of the season, but that won’t be enough to start him next year. The Jets need to go out and get someone with experience.

Everyone talks about how Braylon cannot hold onto the ball. That is true but if you look at his last year as a Jet; he only had two drops the entire season. That year was also the 2nd best year of his career. Edwards hauled in just over 900 reception yards and 7 touchdowns. Keep in mind as well, that Edwards and Sanchez had a good chemistry together that year. On numerous occasions, Braylon saved Mark Sanchez from making some horrible passes (i.e. final moments of Jets/Colts playoff game that season where Sanchez attempted to throw the ball at the moon and Edwards was still able to come down with the catch). One more thing to keep in mind, the Jets will be returning to the ground and pound type offense this season with the addition of Tony Sparano. That means opposing offenses will be focused mostly on the run, which that would be a great opportunity for Sanchez to pull off the play action. I think this signing would be beneficial as I am a firm believer in if ain’t broke don’t fix it believer. We would be going to back to what worked last time.

I am one of the lucky ones. I never thought I’d say that about my parent’s divorce, but my mom remarried a life long, die hard Jet fan. My step dad Ed was a Jets season ticket holder from when they played in Shea Stadium going back to the 1966/Namath era. What a treat it was to listen to his stories about some of the games he witnessed. His experiences were amazing. He watched players today’s Jetfans only know as names of Jet lore; names like Namath, Maynard, Ewbank, Walker, Klecko, Lott, and McNeil come to mind. What always impressed me though was Ed’s knowledge of East Rutherford. If there was an accident or a traffic snarl, Ed knew how to get around it. If we were running late, Ed knew how to get there fast. He could get us to Rut’s Hut and in our mezzanine seats in less than an hour despite traffic, weather, and/or road conditions.

My New York Jets Experience

The winning OT Touchdown that capped The Monday Night Miracle in the Meadowlands win.

I have been to 86 Jets games. My stepfather brought me to more than 60 games. I am quite proud of this number and some of the games I had the opportunity to witness. I was there in 2002 when the Jets beat the then AFC East rivals Colts 41-0. To this day that is still Peyton Manning’s worst playoff loss. I was at the Monday Night Miracle in the Meadowlands in October 2000 when the Jets came back from a 30-7 deficit in the fourth quarter. I was at the infamous 1994 game when Dan Marino faked the spike to score the winning touchdown. I was even at the first Monday night game to be played after 9/11 when the Jets lost to San Fransisco. I have suffered through many 3-13 seasons and I went to every home game in 1998, the only time we made a run at the Superbowl in Giants Stadium. In other words, I have seen it all.

Who cares?

Hey, it’s the off season; I have to write something! The only reason why I bring it up is because I am now a Jets blogger and I thought it relevant information. Who wants to read about the Jets from some uninformed moron who has never been to the stadium? Not me. I wrote this for one reason – My observations and comments come from a long line of Jets experiences dating back to the late 80′s. Beat that! So for future references, you all now know exactly where I’m coming from. Where are you coming from?
