On Tuesday, the NFL released the schedule for the 2012 season for all teams. Looking at the schedule you will realize that the New York Jets will face their hardest opponents in the first half of the season including their AFC division rivals as well. Not only will the Jets face the Bills, Dolphins, and pats; They will also have to see the likes of the 49ers, Texans, and Steelers. There is no doubt the Jets will have their hands filled with these opponents. With that being said, the Jets will definitely need to come out the gates swinging, especially against their division opponents. Let’s breakdown each week to address the concerns, predictions, and keys to winning this season that the Jets must address. Jets fans are especially eager for the draft this year since free agency was so uninspiring and, at best, addressed next to none of our needs. I already said why I like the Tebow trade, but in reality, it’s nothing but an upgrade at a position that didn’t need upgrading, not a hole-filler. Signing Safety LaRon Landry away from the Redskins was a positive hole-filler but I’m always skeptical of what effect playing for Dan Snyder has on a man. Plus this guy has injury issues. So wildcat quarterback (which I was unaware we even needed), safety, and kicker were the positions “addressed” in free agency. (I don’t count WR Chaz Schilens as a signing until he has a season where he catches at least 30 balls.) That still leaves gaping holes at Right Tackle and Wide Receiver on the offense and Outside Linebacker and Pass Rusher on the defense. Wow, April 26th cannot come fast enough! Last year I was not aboard the Tim Tebow band wagon, especially after he beat my Jets. His play was terrible as a QB, but his stats were so unique that I had to wonder about him. He is definitely a winner that much I’ll give him. Losers don’t take over a pathetic looking 1-4 team, take them into the playoffs, and beat the Steelers and their #1 defense. In the end, he seemed to have more yards rushing then passing (that’s totally untrue, he passed for 1,729 yards and ran for 660 but it really did feel that way after many of his games). Furthermore, I am not a religious person and quite frankly, I think religion should be left out of politics and football. So this guy here doesn’t care for Tebowmania. That being said, I am glad the Jets had the gumption to make this trade. Continue reading
Today has been a nail biter for TIm Tebow and New York Jets fans alike. First, the New York Jets announced a trade for Tim Tebow, who has recently been replaced by Peyton Manning following his release form the Colts. Shortly thereafter, the story leaked that a snafu in the contract details would be holding up the closing of the deal. In addition to the trade agreement, the Denver Broncos are requiring an additional $5 million from the Jets for Tebow. As I write, there has been no official statement about the completion or retraction of the trade agreement. Nonetheless, I am confident when I say that Tim Tebow is not the missing link for our team.
Ok, I’m getting mad now. Free agency is supposed to be a big week for Jets fans; it certainly has been in the past. We haven’t done anything yet though other than sign one free agent, our own punter Nick “Folk it” Folk. What’s going on here? Aside from Brandon Marshall leaving Miami, there hasn’t even been any good news. I wasn’t a huge supporter of ancient Peyton Manning, but not even taking a stab at it didn’t please this fan, nor does the fact that Mario Williams has been in Buffalo all week and looks like he’s going to stay there. Christ, we can’t even sign Chad Henne who the front office said they wanted to sign to pressure Sanchez. Why aren’t we signing anyone? Continue reading

Plaxico Burress has made it clear that he has aspirations of playing for the Philadelphia Eagles next season. Surprised? Not me. With all the off field problems and Mark Sanchez’s throwing problems, Plax wants out of New York altogether. Guess with going to the Jets and now wanting to go to the Eagles, I think he is on a mission to irritate as many Giants fans as possible.
I am one of the lucky ones. I never thought I’d say that about my parent’s divorce, but my mom remarried a life long, die hard Jet fan. My step dad Ed was a Jets season ticket holder from when they played in Shea Stadium going back to the 1966/Namath era. What a treat it was to listen to his stories about some of the games he witnessed. His experiences were amazing. He watched players today’s Jetfans only know as names of Jet lore; names like Namath, Maynard, Ewbank, Walker, Klecko, Lott, and McNeil come to mind. What always impressed me though was Ed’s knowledge of East Rutherford. If there was an accident or a traffic snarl, Ed knew how to get around it. If we were running late, Ed knew how to get there fast. He could get us to Rut’s Hut and in our mezzanine seats in less than an hour despite traffic, weather, and/or road conditions. Continue reading
